PROJECT:

BETTISON II

OLIVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA, CANADA

Bettison Road sits in the rural outskirts of Oliver, surrounded by orchard land and framed by the natural beauty of the South Okanagan. This peaceful location embraces a quiet, agricultural lifestyle, where the pace is slower and the surroundings are deeply rooted in nature.

Overview

On the same rural orchard road near Oliver, this 6,308 square foot residence was designed as a companion to a nearby family home which is distinct in layout, yet sharing the same commitment to spacious, multigenerational living. The home also includes a 923 square foot garage and carries forward the same thoughtful attention to balance, privacy, and comfort.

At the core of the residence is a stunning great room with soaring 20-foot ceilings, designed to create a dramatic sense of openness and light. This central space functions as the primary hub for daily living, with ample room for family gatherings, entertaining guests, or simply relaxing in comfort. Its generous scale invites a natural flow between the kitchen, dining, and living areas, encouraging connection while maintaining an airy, uncluttered atmosphere.

Each bedroom in the home has been thoughtfully designed to offer a private retreat, complete with a walk-in closet and a dedicated ensuite bathroom. This consistent level of comfort and autonomy throughout the house supports harmonious multigenerational living, ensuring that every occupant enjoys both personal space and a high standard of convenience.

Approach & Contributions

This plan was developed entirely by Ziola Design, offering a personalized and comprehensive design experience from start to finish. Working directly with the client, the design process began with a thorough understanding of the property and its potential, followed by the careful development of tailored design that reflected both the client’s vision and the rural character of the area.

Located on land within the Agricultural Land Reserve (ALR), the project required a thoughtful approach to zoning restrictions and land-use requirements. Ziola Design helped navigate these challenges with practical design solutions that respected both the regulations and the property’s natural surroundings.
