LATERAL BRACING EXPLAINED
Why the walls you cannot see matter as much as the ones you can.
WHAT IT IS
Lateral bracing is the system of braced wall panels, hold downs and connections that resists wind and earthquake forces on a house.
WHY LAYOUT MATTERS
Large windows, open plans and garage fronts all reduce the solid wall available for bracing. Designing the bracing with the floor plan avoids last minute changes.
WHEN AN ENGINEER IS NEEDED
Larger homes, unusual shapes and designs outside prescriptive code methods may need an engineer. We tell you at the proposal stage.
HOW WE HANDLE IT
Structure and bracing design are part of our plans. See our structural services.
